NB! If you have pigmentation changes, one of our dermatologists will assess the specific type of pigmentation issue. (If it involves pigmentation spots or age spots, according to Danish Health Authority regulations, the dermatologist will be responsible for this specific treatment).

Treatment process for sun damage

Your treatment plan typically consists of a series of IPL treatments (Intense Pulsed Light), which effectively remove both broken capillaries and skin discoloration. After treatment, you can expect mild redness and swelling for a few days.

If the sun has left your skin with fine wrinkles and reduced elasticity, we supplement with laser treatment. We use the most effective, high-quality fractional lasers for skin rejuvenation: Discovery Pico Laser and Cynosure 1540. The advantage of these lasers is that your skin’s surface remains intact, with minimal to no downtime after treatment. The IPL device has built-in cooling to minimize discomfort during treatment.

You can easily resume your daily activities immediately after laser and IPL treatments.
However, after Fractional Laser Er:Glass 1540nm, you may experience mild irritation for a couple of days.If your skin has become thin and crepey, you will greatly benefit from Skinbooster, which is particularly known for deeply hydrating and restoring skin firmness.

Bothered by Pigmentation Changes? Dark Spots? Age Spots or Pregnancy Spots?

Pigmentation spots on the face, chest, and hands are mainly caused by sun exposure, hormonal influences, and skin aging. These spots can be removed, but it is expected that they may return over time, in which case they can be treated again.

If you have pigmentation spots, age spots, or pregnancy spots, the Danish Health Authority requires that they be treated exclusively by dermatologists. However, sun damage in the form of skin discoloration ("cloudy" skin), broken capillaries, and mild wrinkles can be treated by registered nurses authorized by the Health Authority.

We will, of course, help assess what type of pigmentation changes you have. If they are pigmentation spots, you can have them removed by one of our skilled dermatologists in Copenhagen, Skodsborg, or Aalborg.

At DermoCosmetic, our dermatologists remove pigmentation spots, age spots, and pregnancy spots using the highly effective IPL method (Intense Pulsed Light). IPL treatment works by absorbing light into the colored pigment of the spots. When the light is absorbed, it is converted into heat, which destroys the pigment cells. The IPL device has built-in cooling to minimize discomfort during the treatment.

We exclusively use high-quality IPL devices from Cynosure and InMode.

The Danish Health Authority has determined that IPL treatment can be performed directly during the first consultation. In most cases, we recommend this, as typically only a couple of treatments are needed for pigmentation spots to disappear.

After IPL treatment, there will be redness and possibly localized discoloration. You may also experience varying degrees of swelling. These side effects will disappear within a few days to a week.

After the treatment, the pigmentation spots will darken slightly, becoming more pronounced within a few hours as an indication of the treatment's effect. After 1-2 days, the darkened pigmentation moves to the surface and peels off within 5 to 10 days.

In most cases, we pre-treat and post-treat your skin with a cream that reduces pigment production.

Before the Treatment

Before starting your Cosmelan treatment, you must undergo an initial consultation to determine if you are a suitable candidate for the procedure.

We treat pigmentation changes caused by:

The Most Common Pigmentation Issues Include:

You should not undergo treatment if you have active herpes, an active infection, active acne or dermatitis, recent surgery (wound healing), cancer, are undergoing radiation therapy, hormone therapy, are pregnant, or breastfeeding.

The treatment requires 3-9 months of home care after the initial treatment in the clinic.

Treatment Process

We begin by cleansing your skin in the clinic with an oil-based cleanser. Then, a mask called Cosmelan 1 is applied, which must remain on for 6-12 hours, depending on your specialist's recommendation. Afterward, your home care routine begins with the products provided at the clinic.

Following Cosmelan 1, you may experience mild redness and warmth in your skin. In the following days, your skin may feel dry and tight, and after 2-3 days, it will begin to peel.

You will go through three phases over the next three months, during which you must use the five products provided after your treatment:

hydracream fusion, hydratonic mist, cosmelan 2, melan recovery and mesoprotech melan 130 pigment control. You will receive a detailed guide on when and how to apply these products in each phase.

Hydracream Fusion and Hydratonic Mist are used to cleanse and prepare your skin before applying the remaining products.
