Which type of peeling best suits my needs and preferences?
Here, you can get an overview:
There are several types of chemical peelings tailored to different skin challenges.
Peelings can reduce pigmentation irregularities, increase the production of elastic fibers in the dermis, stimulate the formation of new skin, and enhance the skin’s fundamental structure that binds moisture.
Peelings can be used for acne, Rosacea, acne scars, fine wrinkles, and pigmentation changes.
At DermoCosmetic in Copenhagen, Skodsborg, and Aalborg, all peelings are performed by specialists and specially trained nurses.
Important considerations before a peeling
It is important to consider how quickly you want to see skin improvements. The degree of improvement depends on how your skin looks immediately after the peeling. The greater the effect you desire, the longer the healing process will take (up to two weeks).

How deep does a peeling go?
A very superficial peel
Typically performed at home by yourself or by a cosmetologist. The result is limited but can provide a sense of well-being and increased glow right after the peeling. The limited effect is due to the fact that a very superficial peel only affects the very outer layer of the epidermis, the part of the skin that is no longer "living." At DermoCosmetic, we do not use very superficial peels, but only those that penetrate deeper into the skin's "living" layer and therefore have a significantly greater and better effect.
A superficial peel
Gives your skin an even and regular skin tone, and it will appear smoother and fresher. This type of peel works down to the skin layer where new skin cells are created.
With a superficial peel, the superficial skin cells and unwanted pigment are removed, which stimulates the formation of new skin cells, and the naturally moisture-binding substances are increased. The effect of this is that the natural moisture content in the skin increases.
A medium-depth/deep peel
Medium-depth/deep peels take it a step further. They remove the epidermis and move down into the lower part of the dermis. These types of peels can also reduce fine wrinkles and crepey skin. The effect is therefore both the same as in the superficial peel plus a significant wrinkle reduction. If you choose a TCA acid peel, severe sun damage and deep scars from acne, for example, can be greatly reduced.
A good result typically requires more than one peel, and often it is a clear advantage to pre-treat the skin for a short period before the first peel and between peels.
When should I not get a peel?
If you have cold sores, inflamed acne, new surgical scars, or other wounds in the area. During the first consultation, you will receive more information about what happens before, during, and after a peel.
Expected result of a peel
A good result usually requires more than one treatment, and often it is a clear advantage to pre-treat the skin for a short period before the first peel and between peels. After a few treatments with Jessner peel or TCA acid peel, the result is noticeably smoother and fresher skin with fewer fine wrinkles and a better skin texture.
At DermoCosmetic, we also offer treatment for scars, wrinkles, and sun damage with fractional Pico laser, Fractional laser Er: Glass 1540 nm, CO2 laser, and IPL. The best treatment type for you can be assessed during a consultation.
Temporary side effects and risks of medium-depth and deep peels
Side effects and risks of a peel depend on the type and strength of the peel. In general, the milder the peel, the lower the risk of side effects. For example, with a Retinol peel, the risk of side effects is minimal.
Immediately after a medium-depth or deep peel, there is generally a risk of infection, redness, and later scarring, as well as the skin becoming darker or lighter after the peel, and allergic reactions to the chemical liquid. To minimize these risks, we only use highly tested substances.
Although it is rare, there is a risk of temporary or permanent color changes in the skin in the treated area. Some people are genetically more prone to this than others. The risk of pigment errors may also increase when taking birth control pills or during pregnancy after treatment.
In very rare cases, there is a risk of ugly scars, especially in people with a tendency to form keloid scars or other irregular scar formations. Therefore, we do not treat individuals who have a tendency to form keloid scars.
There is a risk of infection from either bacteria, viruses, or fungi. Infection is shown by redness, tenderness, and swelling of the skin, along with possible fever. There is a risk of herpes outbreaks if you have had cold sores before.
