CO2 LASER TREATMENT - AN EFFECTIVE METHOD FOR SIGNIFICANT SKIN REJUVENATION

The result of a CO2 fractional laser treatment is skin that will look significantly younger. At DermoCosmetic, we offer this treatment if you need a deep skin rejuvenation and renewal.

Skin with wrinkles will look 5-10 years younger, and skin with acne scars will become smoother and more even. All CO2 treatments take place in our clinics in Copenhagen and Aalborg.

Which areas of my skin can I treat with CO2 laser?

We are happy to treat your entire face, but you can also have smaller areas treated, such as under the eyes, around the mouth, a bit on the cheeks, only on the upper lip, on the forehead, on the cheeks, and on the neck. If you have benign bumps or other small unwanted skin changes, these can also be removed with a CO2 laser treatment. You can have bumps removed with CO2 laser on the same day as your consultation.

For many, treatment with Pico under the eyes may be a better solution than CO2.

Difference between CO2 full ablation laser and CO2 fractional laser

We offer two types of CO2 laser treatments:

1. CO2 fractional laser - only a small portion of the epidermis is removed during each treatment.

2. CO2 full ablation laser - here the entire epidermis is removed in one treatment.

As a rule, we always offer fractional CO2 laser treatment first and foremost. Both types of CO2 laser treatments are highly effective. Based on your skin, needs, and desires, we will together choose which treatment form will suit you best. If you are not a candidate for CO2 laser, we recommend a milder fractional laser in the form of Pico laser.

CO2 fractional laser

With fractional CO2 laser treatment, only a small part of the epidermis is removed during each treatment. This has several advantages: The risk of side effects is low, and signs after treatment are only visible for a short time.

Fractional CO2 laser is an advancement of traditional CO2 laser technology, where the entire epidermis is removed at once. Fractional CO2 laser treatment must be repeated, and you should expect 2-3 treatments.

CO2 fractional laser is NOT the same as a non-ablative and fractional laser. At DermoCosmetic, we offer treatments like the fractional laser Er: Glass 1540 nm or Pico laser. These two laser treatments are much milder forms of treatment targeted at lighter and milder skin rejuvenation and scar reduction. The top skin layer is left intact after a treatment, and no scabbing occurs.

CO2 full ablation - "traditional" CO2

In rare cases, when a particularly potent and "quick" method is desired, the fractionation is removed from the laser, and the entire epidermis is peeled and burned (full ablation). This is the traditional CO2 laser treatment. It is the most potent treatment available worldwide and is extremely effective.

With this potent CO2 laser treatment, the risk of side effects increases compared to fractional CO2 laser treatment. Healing time increases to 14 days. This treatment is typically only given once, in contrast to the fractional CO2 laser, which is performed 2-3 times.

How many treatments will I need?

The effect of a fractional CO2 laser treatment improves with an additional 1-2 treatments on the face, and more treatments may be required on the body. It is recommended that you wait at least 6 weeks between treatments.

What is the effect of a CO2 laser treatment?

Skin with wrinkles will look 5-10 years younger, and skin with acne scars will become smoother and more even. It is never guaranteed that unwanted skin changes will disappear completely. At times, it may be possible to see the transition to untreated skin.

Generally, the result depends on:

  • Your starting point before treatment

  • Your skin type and its ability to produce collagen

  • Following the aftercare instructions

As a dermatology clinic, we at DermoCosmetic are experts in advising you whether CO2 laser is the right treatment for you. The effect of CO2 laser treatments is a significant rejuvenation of the skin, making it firmer, more even, and smoother.

When is a CO2 laser treatment a good choice for you?

If you have clearly aged and sun-damaged skin, a CO2 laser treatment is often the perfect choice. The treatment is effective for age spots (liver spots), acne scars, wrinkles, and sagging skin, particularly around the eyes, as well as crepey skin and fine lines and wrinkles throughout the face.

You will receive thorough guidance prior to treatment

Erik Obitz, where you will be fully informed about the entire treatment process, what happens before, during, and after the treatment.

How does a CO2 laser treatment work?

The laser’s heating of the skin penetrates both the epidermis and the dermis (depending on the laser device settings). As a result of the heating, the skin tightens.

At the same time, the upper layer of the skin is exfoliated, creating a fresh, new skin layer. The controlled "damage" to the skin leads to effective skin rejuvenation. Wrinkles and scars are smoothed out. The skin’s elasticity, collagen, and the basic substance in the dermis are rejuvenated.

How long should I expect it to take for my skin to return to "normal"?

Healing of the skin lasts from 4 to 10 days (for fractional CO2 laser) and for full ablation without fractionation (traditional CO2 laser), it takes 14 days.

Temporary side effects and risks with CO2 laser treatment

Scarring and discoloration may occur, but this is rare. The laser treatment is not suitable for individuals prone to forming large, thick scars ("keloid formers").
